Soccer Practice Games: 5 Action Ideas To Game Progression
Soccer practice games are immensely important especially in comparison to drills and it’s not hard for someone like me to understand this. Initially, the games must focus on helping the kids acquire the skills and improving their movement with the ball. But there are certain points that you must check when they advance in their soccer training.
As has already been talked about earlier, kids get an opportunity to develop their own special playing style with having fun when divided into groups. First and foremost, the kids must get the freedom to decide on various issues concerning them and this is possible only when the size of the group is small.
Such an arrangement also ensures that the kids have more space to move about in the field, get more touches on the ball and become more accountable for their choices since there are very few players in the group.
On the contrary, when the kids adapt to playing in groups with few players and also improve on their skills, introduce some variants. You should now introduce progressions in soccer practice games. This means that more players should be added, game rules should become stricter, and make the kids practice in larger fields. More intricate strategies should now be introduced that not only work upon improving the player’s talents but also achieve team’s broader objectives.
There is something that I’d like to mention here and it calls for your special attention. Many coaches go wrong when they teach too many things too soon to their kids in the anticipation of preparing them well in advance. Realize that there are no shortcuts to success. You just cannot mechanize the process like in soccer drills. Kids should progress naturally with time.
The tactics may not work well if you are too fast with rules, regulations, and convey too much in a short span of time. This hampers their natural learning and growth.
When kids progress from smaller groups to larger ones, they should inculcate team spirit and understand the objectives behind the games. It is crucial to understand the difference between focusing on your own skills at one time and then using those skills to win the games for your team.
At this stage, along with games, it also becomes important to hold regular discussions and team meetings. Keep in mind that the players now understand the game and its techniques. As a result, it is a blunder to ignore their skills in soccer exercises.
When you involve them in the decision making, it makes them responsible and they share their thoughts more openly.
The games should now concentrate on making the kids think proactively about winning matches. If they put their team above themselves, you have done well as a coach.
Now you must take this knowledge and incorporate it in your plan. Soccer practice games are essential for making the kids learn naturally and so you must be very creative in selecting them. Join our youth soccer coaching community to gain more knowledge on such games and strategies.
